[Pledge Drive] I support public radio, at least in theory. I don't make routine donations like my kind-hearted friends, but then how many pledge drives does City Weekly host? None. We don't interupt our usual programming to (basically) guilt our readers into donating $50 for a free coffee mug or $100 for lunch at Einstein's. Now, I have nothing against fund-raising for a great cause. I don't know what I'd do without KCPW, KUER and KRCL. But for crying out loud, could they do something about the drive's length? Why is it necessary to chat for 10 minutes about how great this or that show is? Why not just introduce it with some pithy, witty banter and get on with it. Let the program speak for itself. At the very least, do a segment on Schweaty Balls! Then I might eat tuna for a week to pony up some bucks.
